From the Cirector of Public Works.
To the Hon. the Colonial Secretary.
Sir,
401
Public Works Office,
HongKong, 4th. September, 1902.
Adverting to 0.S.0.1496/02, I have the honour to
inform you that much more rapid progress has been made with the
fixing of public fountains for the supply of tenement houses than
I anticipated.
Already, over 100 of them have been fixed, with the
result that the vote of $2,500 has been exhausted.
It is very desirable that the work should be gone on
with and brought to completion as early as possible and I there-
fore submit that a supplementary vote for the sum of $4,000 be
taken. This amount should cover the possible expenditure up to
the end of the current year.
When the Regulations which have been submitted have
been approved by the Governor in Council, steps for the discon-
nection of the house services in the districts where the fountains
have been fixed will be taken.
I have etc.,
(Sd.). W.Chatham.
